not for material benefit but for getting facilities to approach gopīs they worship Kātyāyanī for getting Kṛṣṇa as a husband.
Prabhupāda:
…approach Kṛṣṇa. Not that dhanaṁ dehi, rūpaṁ dehi, bhāryāṁ dehi. [give me wealth, give me beauty, give me wife]. Hmm …not for material benefit but for getting facilities to approach gopīs they worship Kātyāyanī for getting Kṛṣṇa as a husband. So we should follow. Siṁhavāhinī.
sṛṣṭi-sthiti-pralaya-sādhana-śaktir ekā
chāyeva yasya bhuvanāni bibharti durgā
icchānurūpam api yasya ca ceṣṭate sā
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi
[Bs 5.44]
She acts according to the order of Govinda. Therefore to approach Govinda, if one prays to Kātyāyanī, it is very helpful.
